FAQ

  • We offer a unique approach to individual, family, and group counseling. The core of our therapeutic approach is experiential or activity-based interventions. Experiential therapy promotes reflection, heightened self-awareness, skill-building, and problem-solving which engages the clients in their growth and change.
  • Action providers offer the option for clients to meet outside if the client would prefer to feel Mother Nature’s healing properties during their session.
  1. Register.  On the front page of our website click on New Client Registration. Once you’ve entered the required information – you will see a dialogue box reminding you to check your email and set up your Client Portal.

  2. Set up your client portal.  Look for an email from no-reply@therapyappointment.com asking you to set up and manage your profile (portal) with a unique username and password. Please check your spam folder if you don’t see it right away.  The link in the email is only good for 24 hours.

  3. Complete the required consent forms.   Once in your client portal, please complete the online consent forms found in My Docs & Forms. Please confirm your forms are marked as completed in My Docs & Forms.

  4. Send a copy of your insurance card to the Client Care team.  In the “My Messages” section of your client portal, click “Ask scheduling” (on the right side of the page). Here you will attach a photo of the front and back of your insurance card and send it to our Client Care Team.

  5. Contact your insurance company. It’s important that you obtain your mental/behavioral health benefits and make sure Action Consulting and Therapy is in-network with your plan.  Action is in-network with many insurance plans, but not all. We do offer self-pay rates for clients who do not have insurance, do not wish to submit claims to their insurance company, or if Action is not in-network with your plan

Once these steps have been completed, a Client Care team member will contact you to schedule your first appointment.

  • In order for our providers to focus on your mental health care, all of the registration requirements must be completed at least 48 business hours prior to your appointment so our Benefits Department has time to verify your insurance is current and the consent forms are completed properly.  If you are unable to complete these things during this timeframe, we can reschedule the appointment to allow you time to complete the items.
  • Please visit our website and click on Our Team to “meet” and learn about our providers.
  • You can also call our office at 630-686-2282 and one of our Client Care Team Members will be happy to listen to your needs and help connect you with the Action provider who best meets your therapy and scheduling needs.

  • Clients should contact their insurance company prior to scheduling to obtain their behavioral health benefits prior to scheduling an appointment.

If you are unsure what (if any) mental health benefits your health insurance plan offers, please contact your insurance company by calling the customer service number listed on the back of your insurance card.  You’ll want to ask these questions:

  • Is Action Consulting and Therapy an in-network provider in my plan?
    • If yes…
      • What are my benefits for behavioral health appointments held in the office or by video (telemental health)?
      • Am I covered for couples or family therapy? If yes, what are those benefits?
      • What is my financial responsibility for each appointment? What is my copay, coinsurance, or deductible?
      • Are there any limitations to my behavioral health coverage?
      • Am I limited to the number of sessions allowed?
  • If no, Action Consulting and Therapy is not an in-network provider…
      • What are my out-of-network behavioral health benefits?
      • What is my financial responsibility for each of these out-of-network appointments?
      • Are there any limitations to my out-of-network coverage?

If you are using your Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits, your EAP company should provide you with the following information:

  • EAP name
  • EAP company phone number
  • Authorization number
  • Number of authorized sessions
  • Start and end date for these sessions
  • Not necessarily.  Just because we are in-network with your primary health insurance company does not mean your policy offers behavioral/mental health coverage.
  • You are encouraged to contact your insurance company to find out if you have mental/behavioral health benefits for outpatient, in-office (or video) appointments, and make sure Action Consulting and Therapy is in-network with your plan.
  • We will submit your claims electronically to your insurance company.
  • If you want to use your insurance and we are an in-network provider, we’ll collect the contracted rate per session depending on the plan.

  • Clients are financially responsible for any fees that remain after their insurance company has processed the claim.
  • We refer to the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) provided by the insurance company, however, if you have confusion on benefits or think there may be an error, we will be happy to talk this through with you.
  • In the event your insurance company makes an error, we will educate you and assist with advocating for your benefits.
  • We offer self-pay rates and will charge your card on file at the end of each session.  We will give you a superbill (receipt) for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement directly to you.

  • We offer a discounted rate to individuals who do not have insurance or have insurance where Action is not considered an in-network provider
